Physics Club
From Physiki
All students with an interest in Physics are invited to join the Lafayette Physics Club. You don't have to be a Physics major to join.
The Physics Club is a chapter of the national Society of Physics Students (SPS) but there are no dues for the physics club and you are not required to join the SPS. There are perks for joining the SPS, including a subscription to Physics Today, the monthly publication of the American Institute of Physics; and the opportunity to participate in regional events with physics students at other colleges and universities. Members of SPS can also become members of Sigma Pi Sigma (ΣΠΣ) the national honor society in physics.
The primary activities of the Physics Club include lunch-time talks, most of which are given by invited guests, usually eminent physicists from universities or industry. Other talks are given by faculty members from the Physics Department or related departments on campus, and the final talks in the Fall semester each year are given by candidates for departmental honors. Lunch is provided free for all at the talks.
Other activities of the club include: rocket launching contests; showings of science fiction videos; ice cream socials; stargazing parties, and an annual picnic.
There is a mailing list for announcements of physics-related activities on campus. To subscribe, simply send an email to PhysicsClub-join@mailman.lafayette.edu.
